Captain Corelli’s Plot summary
The movie follows a love affair that starts uncomfortably between a drafted officer of the army occupying a Greek Island, its captain and a young ambitious local girl from the Island.
Upon arrival on the island, Corelli and his men look upon their stay as a vacation away from the war, only connected to it by the radio waves used for communications. Resented by the local inhabitants of the village initially, the charisma and passionate ways of life of these Italian invaders win the hearts of the population, as heritage and circumstances fade and Pelagia sees the Captain in a whole different light, enjoying life to its fullest and passionate for music and ultimately for her.
Ultimately war catches up with them, forever changing life for the peaceful locals and for the stationed army men. The relationship between Corelli and Pelagia faces this threat as the reality of war becomes evident. The option to leave the island and the love of his life is a more than possible reality and both realize they must part uncertain they will ever see each other again.
